At the YMCA, we are committed to strengthening communities by meeting the needs of families and children. Through our 21st Century Community Learning Center (21C) program, we are making a meaningful difference for students and families who need extra support. Thanks to the efforts of our Y staff, members, and community partners, this program has provided vital resources and brightened the lives of many.
At Howe Elementary School, we hosted a Bridge the Break food pantry event that served 105 families and provided food for 490 individuals. Families could shop for essentials like cereal, canned goods, fresh produce, and baked goods. Our after-school chefs created meal kits with recipes that families loved. The event was made possible by the hard work of staff and volunteers, and we’re looking forward to holding similar events in the future.
At Beaumont Elementary School, families received food bags with fresh ingredients and recipes for healthy meals. Each family also got cookie decorating kits and birthday boxes filled with cake mix, frosting, and other treats. These extra touches made the experience even more special, thanks to the dedication of staff who made it happen.
The YMCA’s gymnastics families showed incredible generosity by sponsoring three 21C families for Christmas. They provided gifts to brighten the holiday season, continuing a tradition that has brought joy to families year after year.
The Ferguson Family YMCA organized a giving tree to help a family living in a shelter. The gifts and practical items donated by members and staff made a big impact, showing what can be accomplished when a community comes together to support others.
At the East Side YMCA, staff and members supported a family living in a motel by providing essentials like shampoo, laundry detergent, and paper towels, along with gifts for the children. Their kindness and care made a real difference for this family.
Fox Communities Credit Union partnered with the Green Bay YMCA to sponsor eight families from Doty Elementary School. Each family received a holiday meal box with ham, sides, cookies, blankets, and other thoughtful items. This partnership was a wonderful example of how working together can make a bigger impact.
Through the connections and efforts of staff, another family was able to enjoy a brighter holiday season with gifts and support. This is just one of many examples of how Y staff go above and beyond to help the families they serve.
Through these efforts, the Y’s 21C program continues to fulfill our mission of helping people reach their full potential. To everyone who donated, volunteered, or supported this program, thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many. Together, we are creating stronger communities and building a better future.
About the program: The Y’s 21C Program provides academic, health, and enrichment opportunities after school for students from high-poverty, low-performing schools. The program also helps students grow socially and emotionally while connecting them to learning opportunities in STEM, arts, leadership, and more.
