Youth in Government
Join Youth in Government to experience the role of state legislators, lawyers, and more while running a mock government at the Wisconsin State Capitol.
Explore Leadership and Civic Engagement
Youth in Government (YIG) invites students in grades 7-12 to immerse themselves in a dynamic civic learning experience. Participants take on roles such as legislators, lawyers, and media professionals, gaining firsthand knowledge of government operations and leadership. This exciting three-day event at the Wisconsin State Capitol includes debates, elections, and social activities.
Legislative Experience
Dive into the world of state politics as a senator or representative. Craft bills, engage in committee discussions, and debate on the floor. Your ideas can shape future laws, providing a true legislative experience while developing public speaking and negotiation skills. Be a part of decision-making processes that influence how the state is governed.
Judicial and Media Roles
Explore the judicial branch by acting as a lawyer or judge, preparing and presenting cases, and making judicial decisions. Alternatively, join the media team to create and deliver news, write articles, and produce broadcasts. Both roles offer a comprehensive view of the state’s inner workings and enhance critical thinking and communication skills.
